Low Data Mode

My iPhone keeps telling me Low Data Mode is turned on when it definitely is not. Every single time an app needs to update it asks me if I want to allow it “because Low Data Mode is activated” but it is not.

I switched Low Data Mode on one time and since then even though I turned it off my phone continues to behave as though it’s still on. It’s very annoying to have to constantly click on these pop ups when I don’t need or want low data mode on the begin with.

Lets make sure, one more time, that the Low Data Mode is turned OFF.

Go to Settings-->>Cellular-->>Low Data Mode and make sure the switch is set to OFF

After than Force ReStart your iPhone and here is how to do that-->>Force restart iPhone - Apple Support

Hope that helps.

So I actually figured out the solution on my own by chance.

The trick was, for some reason I still don’t completely understand, there is actually a switch for “low data mode” in two places: cellular and WiFi. If you switch cellular to low data mode, like I did one day, it switches them both on, but when you switch it off on cellular it does not switch it off under WiFi. I was turning on my hotspot the other day and discovered by accident that my WiFi was set to low data mode despite the fact I never set it that way because I literally didn’t know it was there.

Not a single message board or solution I found online mentioned there being a “low data mode” in WiFi, so I never looked there.

Now low data mode is finally completely off on my phone and I don’t think I’m ever going to mess with it ever again.

OK. Let's do the Force ReStart again since you were not sure th1.e first time. This is because if Force ReStart Does not work then I will need to have you call Verizon and ask them if they are slowing down your data speeds due to your monthly data allotment etc (I don't know which cellular plan you have). If Verizon is not slowing your data down then I recommend that you have your iPhone examined at an Apple Store.

Let's try Force ReStart again-

  1. Locate the Sleep/Wake button on your iPhone. This is the button on the right side of the screen as you are facing it.
  2. Locate the Volume Down button on your iPhone. The volume Up and Volume Down buttons are on the left side of the screen.
  3. Push and continue to Push and Hold the Volume DOWN buttons and Sleep/Wake button at the same time for 20 seconds until you see the Apple logo come up. The phone will go completely blank for a few seconds but continue keeping those two buttons pushed.
  4. Once the Apple Logo shows up then release the button and log in as you normally do.
