apple news - sidebar greyed out - news not working

"Don't see the sidebar? Tap or click the sidebar button  in the upper-left corner of the app."


This icon will not click. This seems to be the fix in all the articles. Greyed out - WILL NOT CLICK

Boot into Safe Mode (Use Safe Mode to isoloate issues with your Mac and Playing Safe: what does Safe Mode do?) and try opening the sidebar from there. Also try the View menu to open the sidebar. Reboot normally and try again.

NOTE: Safe Mode boot can take up to 10 minutes as it's doing some system cache cleaning, volume verifying and directory repairing.

I have no idea. Use Find Any File to search for any files with News in the file name. .  For example you'd do the following search: 


Name contains news

Names ends with .pilist


Any files that are found can be dragged from the search results window to the Desktop or Trash bin in the Dock for deletion. This is what I found but have no idea which you want to delete:


However, damaged cache files could be the problem and a Safe Mode boot would tell you if that's the case.


FAF can search areas that Spotlight can't like invisible folders, system folders and packages.
