iPad Pro 10.5 ...which Pencil to use?

OK, I see that this question has been asked a few times but I'm still confused!

The reason for the confusion is this:

My iPad is equipped with the three "Magnetic Dots" on one of the "long sides" of the tablet which I understand are for "parking, charging and pairing" with the second generation pen.

...Why then do the replies all say that the iPad Pro 10.5 inch can only use the first generation pen which requires the ridiculously dangerous habit of connecting for pairing and charging via the tablet's charging port!

Surely this is incorrect?

Hello,

The magnetic dots on the side of iPad is called the Smart Connector. This is strictly used for connecting compatible keyboards. iPad Pro (3rd generation) has a new special connector which allows for use with the Apple Pencil (2nd generation). iPad Pro 10.5-inch is only compatible with Apple Pencil (1st generation).

I've used my first generation pencil with my first generation iPad Pro, and have charged it many many times using the iPad's lightning port without any ill effects. So not sure, why it would destroy your iPad's charging port.

However, if you really are against plugging the Pencil into the iPad's lightning port, you can always use the included adapter and charge it using a standard iPad or iPhone charger plugged into a wall socket.

You can find on Amazon makers of special 1st gen Apple Pencil charging docks that sit on a tabletop that you can plug into an Apple power/charging adapter to keep a 1st gen Apple Pencil constantly charged.

Something like these.
