IPad 10th Gen Not Pairing with Apple Pencil 1st Gen

Have the brand new 10th gen iPad and an Apple Pencil 1st gen, the Apple Lightning adapter that came with it and the Apple Lightning to USB-c cable… it didn’t pair. I spent an hour with an Apple tech who did everything I had already done, even tried a brand new out-of-the-box Pencil 1st gen, still didn’t pair. So, I returned to the retailer where their tech admitted that there was an ongoing issue… I asked for a return/exchange to which they agreed but said “All I can tell you is that it’s supposed to pair according to Apple”. Well, here I am with the exchange and still no pairing. There’s clearly a problem they need to fix.

Okay...  It worked!

Try this: ( It finally worked with 10th gen ipad) I craked this after 2 hours cannot believe it:-)

SOLUTION HERE:

1. Make sure the apple pencil has some charge( give it 5 minutes to charge)

2. Download lightblue app from app store.

3. Open lightblue app.

4. Search for apple pencil( should appear in the list)

5. Tap on apple pencil, then type 1234 for pairing code.( don't pair via regular bluetooth, it.won't work)

6. Finally tap pair button. Wualla it works now!!! :-))) okay, okay, just keep breathing:-)))

Please notice!!!!!

On each pencil charge, or turning off the ipad, the pairing will be lost!!!

Solution for REPARING AGAIN:

1. OPEN regular BLUETOOTH setting.

2.  Locate apple pencil, and Tap on (I) sign to open dialog window.

3. Choose forget this device.

4. Open lightblue app again, and search for apple pencil again.

5. Enter 1234 for pairing again.

6. Bingo, it will pair your pencil again!

Reminder:

Everytime you have a connectivity issues,

Do the following:

Okay...  It worked!!!

10th generation IPAD 16.3 VER IOS

SOLUTION HERE:

1. Make sure the apple pencil has some charge. ( give it 5 minutes to charge)

1.1 disconnect the apple pencil from a cable. Because in my solution it should work as a stand alone bluetooth device. The main problem is the cable connection to ipad.

So once pencile is charged( 5-6 minutes)

Simply disconnect it from charger.

Yes, you got me right, DO NOT CONNECT pencil with that cable TO YOUR IPAD, as this is the main reason why it won't pair ( hahaha)

2. Download lightblue app from app store.

3. Open lightblue app.( make sure pencil is not connected to ipad through a cable)

4. Search for apple pencil( should appear in the list)

5. Tap on apple pencil, then type 1234 for pairing code.( don't pair via regular bluetooth, it won't work)

6. Finally tap pair button ( it should work now)

Please notice!!!!!

On each pencil charge, or turning off the ipad, the pairing will be lost!!!

Solution for REPARING AGAIN:

0.1 connect the pencil with charge cable to wake it up ( with a time a pencil will enter the Idle mode.) so by connecting the pencil TO a charger will wake it up.

1.OPEN BLUETOOTH setting.

2.  Locate apple pencil, and Tap on (I) sign to open THE dialog window.

3. Choose forget this device.

5. Open lightblue app again, and search for apple pencil again.

6. Enter 1234 for pairing again.

7. Bingo, it will pair your pencil and ipad again.

Reminder:

while pairing pencil, with ipad don't connect them with a cable!!!

Everytime you have a connectivity issues,

1. Forget device from regular bluetooth setting.

2. Reconnect your pencil again via light blue app.

3. Plug the pencil into the charger to wake it up.

Enjoy.

Ive tested it 3 times it works yeeeeeeaaa baby!!!!:-)))))

Same exact problem. I have done a hard reset, tried two different apple 1 pens, I bought a usb-c to lightening cord, and usb-c to lightening adapters and still no luck. I plugged rgr pen into my moms iPad that’s older and works no problem. Clearly false advertisement from Apple. What a huge problem. Not sure whether to wait for them to fix it or buy a third party pen.

I have spent days and hours with this issue, and with a 10th gen iPad and a first-generation pencil with no results with Apple support. I even received a return swap of the iPad with the same issue. My calls and trouble shooting started on February 7th and ended today 02/17/2024. The result: You are just going to have to wait until it's fixed with a software update and with no known date. I was also informed that Apple will not reach out to me if a solution is found, I just need to keep doing updates. Both iPads came out of the box defective. I purchased Apple extended care which they say does not cover the issue because it's a software issue on their part and not a manufacturing defect. Buyer beware.

0. Make sure. Pencil has some little charge.

0.1 disconnect a pencil from ipad(in my case it worked when the cable is unplugged) it never worked with a cable pluged in

1. OPEN BLUETOOTH setting.

2.  Locate apple pencil, and Tap on (I) sign to open THE dialog window.

3. Choose forget this device.

5. Open lightblue app again, and search for apple pencil again.

6. Enter 1234 for pairing again.

7. Bingo, it will pair your pencil and ipad again.

Reminder:

Everytime you have a connectivity issues,

1. Forget device from regular bluetooth setting.

2. Reconnect your pencil again via light blue app.

3. Plug the pencil into the charger to wake it up.

You have to "Forget Device" on ALL previously connected devices to the pencil. Mine did the same thing until I went into the settings of the old iPad and removed the pencil from Bluetooth connection. Once you remove it from all other devices, restart the new iPad then connect with LightBlue instructions again. Your pairing number will be 1234
