Audio skipping

I notice often that the audio skips subtly when playing music on my iPhone XR. I used to have the exact same issue with my 5SE. It doesn’t make any difference if I’m using Bluetooth headphones or CarPlay with a direct usb connection. It also doesn’t matter if it is streamed or downloaded. It also isn’t app specific. I don’t know how long it’s been happening, but it’s always happening since I first noticed it a few years ago.

Hey there Jeffobrien10,

Thanks for reaching out to Apple Support Communities. I understand the audio from music on your iPhone XR is skipping. It sounds like you’ve done some great troubleshooting to isolate the issue and I’ll be happy to help.

To verify, are you using Apple Music? Have you tried playing music from other sources or apps to see if this has any impact on the issue? If not, do this and see what the results are.

Also, did you restore a backup of your SE to your XR? If so, back up your iPhone and restore it to factory settings with the steps from these links:

How to back up your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch

Restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod to factory settings

Test music in this state. You can add your iCloud account and other data but just do not restore a backup until you’ve been able to test. If everything works good in this state, restore your backup and test once more:

Restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch from a backup

Let me know if this helps.
