Mac OS 10.15.3 Desktop picture area blank.

Every time I open up system prefs and go to Desktop & Screen Saver and click on the desktop tab to change my desktop picture, the area where the photo appear suddenly goes blank. The screen saver tab works fine but once the desktop picture tab is selected and goes blank it doesn't work and I can't change select anything.

Hmmm,

Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at startup), does the problem occur in Safe Mode?

Safe mode attempts to repair Disks & clears lots of caches, so if Safe Mode works try again in regular boot.

I suspect these files should be moved to Desktop while SysPrefs is NOT open...

/Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.systempreferences.plist

/Users/YourUserName/Library/Application Support/Dock/desktoppicture.db

But might try this first...

To find out if it's system wide or user specific, try this...

Open System Preferences>Users & Groups, unlock the lock, click on the little plus icon, make a new admin account, log out & into the new account.

Does it work in the new account?

Apple hid the Users' Library folders...

Method 1:

1 From the Finder, select the Go menu at top of the screen, and choose Go to Folder.

2 In the window that opens, enter ~/Library, and click Go.

Method 2:

1 Go to the Finder (or desktop).

2 Hold the Option key on your keyboard, and click the Go menu at the top of the screen.

3 With the Go menu open, you'll notice that pressing and releasing Option will display or hide the Library choice in this menu.

4 Select Library from the Go menu (while holding down Option) to access the hidden folder.
