In this article https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT205807 it is stated that air 3 can benefit from high wattage charger using usb c cable (It came with 10 watts). However in some other articles (https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT202105) the device is not listed among fast charging devices. Should I invest in a new charger?

iPad Air (3rd generation) should be able to support a higher wattage power adapter.
