Update crash

I did an update on my daughter iPad and when it came back it was a black screen that said to connect to iPad. I searched and found that I need to do the update plugged into my computer. I did and it was unsuccessful 🙁 so now I have to do a restore. Does that mean She will lose everything on her iPad? Can I get everything back?

Please refer to the following Apple Support document. Hopefully she has a backup of her iPad. If not, this is a good example as to why it is important to maintain a current backup.
