TOC format in Pages on my iPad

I have a large book I'm working on. A collection of writings of various family members now deceased. My Table of Contents is very simple, arranged by authors. Following is a screenshot.

As you can see when I generate the TOC into my document it puts the page numbers under each entry instead of to the left. Ugly and not as shown in Apple's how to guides. How do I solve this problem?

Thanks, Jerry

After a little experimentation that seems to be the issue. My document is 6” x 9”. If i re-size the document to default, 8.5” x 11”, the TOC is inserted correctly.

So I tried to copy and paste to the smaller document with no success. So it seems, unless someone has a better idea, exporting the TOC in iOs does not work for smaller than default settings.

Thanks for responding. I used my iPad for the entire process. In other words I used Paragraph Styles, then selected which Paragraph Styles I wanted in the TOC. Then I chose "Insert Table of Contents" at the bottom of the list as shown in this screenshot. The TOC was generated at the insertion point but looks like the screenshot in my first post...not like the one shown in the screenshot below.
