Safari cannot establish a secure connetcion Mac/Iphone/iPad using wifi

This problem has started over the last 2 weeks. I get this message when using links from genuine emails (newsletters used for years). This using Safari on Mac,(mojave) iPhone, iPad using IOS 12.4.1 and a similar message when using the latest Chrome browser on my Mac.

When I use the 4g mobile network on my phone it works!

I do not have any 3rd party virus s/w on my iPad and phone.

I have disabled Ghostery which has given me the occasional problem in the past.

Any thoughts would be most welcome.

I have cracked it! It is my ISP (BT) that is blocking these 2 sites. I truncated the addresses to the .com part and got a message from BT on Chrome.

I thought this might be the case given there are no other problems and can connect vis 4g

Thanks for your time.

Hello Brianm99,

Welcome to Apple Support Communities. It sounds like you're having trouble accessing webpages over a Wi-Fi connection on your Mac, iPhone, and iPad. I'd be happy to share information that may help.

First, try opening the links while connected to an alternate Wi-Fi network to further isolate the issue to one Wi-Fi network. If this only occurs on one Wi-Fi network, restart your modem or router and your devices. If the issue persists, contact your internet service provider.

If the issue occurs on multiple Wi-Fi networks, begin troubleshooting by trying the steps here:

  • On your iPhone and iPad, try resetting the network settings. Here are the steps: tap Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings. This also resets Wi-Fi networks and passwords, cellular settings, and VPN and APN settings that you’ve used before.
  • On your Mac, try opening the links after starting up in safe mode:  Use safe mode to isolate issues with your Mac.

You can find these steps and more here:

If Safari doesn't load a page or webpage items are missing

Take care.

Hello Brianm99 ,

Thank you for your reply. Let's keep working on this.

Next, check on both devices to ensure both the date and time are correct.

On your iPad, reset the network settings. Here are the steps: tap Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings. This also resets Wi-Fi networks and passwords, cellular settings, and VPN and APN settings that you’ve used before.

For your Mac, try the steps in the "Analyze your wireless environment" section of this article to run Wireless Diagnostics: If your Mac doesn't connect to the Internet over Wi-Fi.

If you're still having trouble with this, please reply with the following details:

-Did you have a chance to test the issue over a different Wi-Fi network?

-Are you able to access webpages directly from Safari?

Take care.

Hello Joseph_S

thanks for taking an interest.

I tried your suggestions, the wireless diagnostic returned “working OK” & rest made no difference.

I have not had the opportunity to try one of my mobile devices elsewhere, although I will in a week or so.

As for Safari, it works fine locating pages, this problem only stems from links in mail, and it also happens using Chrome which otherwise works properly.
