Corel painter refuses to start

I have purcahsed and tried to install Corel Painter 2020 on

Macbook Pro w/ High Sierra 10.13.6

There was no indication of problems during the installation.

But when finished and I clicked on the app icon in Applications

I got a dialog about not being able to open it. With Corel

support instructions I have tried to install it 3 times.

Has anyone else had this issue or an issue like it that there

may be a fix for?

I have had one other application installed give the same

message when attempting to launch it. It was free software

and their support was good enough to send a terminal script to

run to see exactly what the problem was when the app launched.

It return some type of obscure error message and code.

Would there be a similar one for this?

Thank you for time and attention

JK

Launch the Corel Painter app again, and just leave the error dialog on the screen. Then in System Preferences : Security & Privacy : General panel, in the lower half of the screen, you should be presented with an override option for Corel Painter under Allow apps downloaded from section. Will look like this example for Pantone's product. Click Open Anyway.

You should now be able to launch Corel Painter normally after the above selection.

Having done development and debugging I decided to look

over the report that was sent to Apple regarding the failure to

start.

It may not be the case that the technically knowledgeable

would see or respond to this but I am pasting in the relevant

details.

The question is the libarary that can't be found Apple software

or Corel software (possibly including Apple software);

specifically /Library/Preferences/*/libPASMUtility.dylib

Exception Type: EXC_CRASH (SIGABRT)

I hope it is not objectionable that I posted this here.

As of now my correspondence with Corel customer support via

email ticket has not been responded to since the last attempt to

install and run the software. I have not even gotten an acknowledgment

of the problem, including a request for $199 refund if the software can't

be fixed. BUT While the software is not an Apple product, it may have

issues related to Apple software.

I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND COREL THIS AT THIS TIME.

No cigar.

Pressing an holding OPTION while double clicking dismissed the Applications window

and showed the same failure to start dialog. There was a second dialog offering to send

a report to Apple with details about the problem. But not being anywhere near techie

enough I could not see what was going on. Only that a library was missing.

This is disappointing to say the least. I used to use Painter when it was owned by

Fractle Design. I used it a lot. I was hoping it would also be an alternative to Adobe

Photoshop.

Thank you for the advice, nonetheless.
