Using an Apple Remote w/ MacBook Pro 2019

Hiya,


I'm trying to use an apple remote (the silver one, with 7 buttons. A silver circle button with a black ring around it and 2 smaller circle buttons below) with my MacBook Pro 2019, but not much luck so far. I'm wondering if it's even possible or that I need another device to control my macbook from a distance.

I'm trying to control a playlist of video's in VLC player. So not that complex.

What should I do?

To the best of my knowledge, no MacBook Pro has ever had an ifrared receiver. You'd need a USB infrared receiver. This is one I found mentioned in a brief search:
