I want to trade in my old laptop and put the credit towards a new laptop.
At the same time, I want to transfer the data on my old comp to the new comp.
Can the apple store transfer my data and then apply the credit for the trade in laptop to the cost of the new laptop?

As BDAqua says: buy an external drive and back up your old laptop. TimeMachine is free and already on your laptop.

They could but have never heard of it, get an External drive & backup with Time Machine or Carbon Copy Cloner.
