Why does my iMac have two of the same storage ?? Did I do something wrong when I tried to reset my disc in discutilities? and why is my startdisc Mac data instead of Macintosh HD?

It sounds right but is it normal that it shows 2 of the same just named differently in "storage"? I've never noticed this. I don't understand why its suddenly the "Mac data" that is my startdisc and not Macintosh HD
I see you're running macOS 10.15 Catalina, in which case this is normal. Catalina introduces a separate read-only system volume. See https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT210650 for more information.
