iPhone XR lagging, apps crashing, and restarting

My iPhone XR just started having issues a few days ago. I noticed that it was being particularly laggy, and I even got stuck on a black screen with rotating wheel in the middle a few times and had to force restart the device. Now, I can rarely open an app without it immediately crashing. I read that this might be due to a memory issue, so I deleted all my photos and currently have over 50gb of storage free so that cant be it. There is no physical damage to the phone, and there should not be any water damage.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Hello DonnnaSteve,

Which version of iOS are you running? Is your iPhone XR updated and current on iOS?

What you read was correct that this can be a memory issue, however, the memory in question is RAM (Random Access Memory) and NOT storage space that you freed up. The iPhone XR has 3GB of RAM which is used as dynamic memory and is crucial for app(s)' and overall performance management of the device. If the device has difficulty reading from and/or writing to RAM then the symptoms that you posted can be experienced by the user.

  1. Try and see wether Reset All Settings solves it-->>Settings-->>General-->>Reset-->>Reset All Settings and if this does not work then-
  2. You can backup your iPhone and then Restore it as New (Factory Settings) and see if the issue persists. If it is resolved then restore the backup file on to the iPhone.
  3. OR you can skip one or both of the above and have your iPhone examined at an Apple Store or an Apple Authorized Repair Center.

Good Luck.
