Can't find wifi networks with my macbook pro, but am using it now while on recovery mode (sometimes). what's happening? what do i do?

Restart the router.
Startup in Safe Mode. https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201262
Click the WiFi icon in the menu bar.
Do available networks show up?
Restart normally by clicking the “Restart” button at the bottom.

Remove and re-add the network location, or add a different location, configure Wi-Fi in that, and try again.
If you have add-on anti-malware, add-on anti-virus, add-on cleaners, add-on VPN clients, or add-on firewalls, remove all of those per the vendors’ instructions, reboot, a d try your tests again.
Failing that, download and run ErtreCheck, then open a new reply here and then press the button that looks like a printed page to get a text input box big enough to paste the hardware and software configuration report here, and we’ll have a look.
It’s certainly also possible there are local Wi-Fi issues, Wi-Fi interference, or problems with the Mac Wi-Fi hardware, too. Rebooting the Wi-Fi router is an excellent suggestion, as is Safe Mode.
