Share via email in Numbers and Pages is missing

I share documents in Numbers and Pages frequently with the Share command. About 2 weeks ago the option to do so via email disappeared. How do I get it back?

It's possible that a system file needs rebuilding. It's an old article, but see If Share options or Markup is missing after upgrading to OS X Yosemite or El Capitan which tells you what to try.

Alternatively, you might have changed your default email application. For example, if you use Gmail in Chrome, it prompts you to make it the default and you might have agreed. To check, open Mail and click Mail menu > Preferences > General which should show Mail as the default like this:

Of course, it's possible you wanted Chrome + Gmail or some other application to be the default. But if you set it that way, you can no longer do Share > Mail in Finder or other apps.
