Setting up 2TB Time Capsule for backups only.

I have used my 2TB Time Capsule for years but since relocating, I have not had it connected for some time. The reason being that mu Sky Router is downstairs, in the hallway and my Hive Heating modem plugged into it. My iMac and Time Capsule are upstairs in my study. Is there any way to use the TC for automatic backups, without being connected to the Sky router, and are there any issues with the old backups that should be sitting on the TC?

If the setup is correct, your Mac should be able to connect to the Internet using WiFi while backups occur between the Mac and the Time Capsule over Ethernet.

You should not have to "switch" connections between Ethernet and WiFi at all if everything is configured correctly.

It sounds as if you have set up things so that you can either back up using the Ethernet connection......or......connect to the Internet using WiFi......but you cannot do both things at the same time......which is the goal of the special setup that LaPastenague has detailed for you.

I'm sure that LaPastenague will have additional comments and more suggestions. Frankly, this is not an easy setup for most users.
