I looked in the preferences/internet account but there is no way to change my email setting from IMAC to POP. I also tried to delete my account and create a new one with the same address but it gave authomatically the IMAC. No way to choose POP. How can I do?

You have to contact your ISP first to change the account type and then you can reset the settings in Mail - Preferences - Accounts (select the account) - Server Settings
Ask your mailbox provider first. May be he cannot serve POP3 at all.

1) My server is Yahoo and there is no possibility to change those settings.
2) The choice between POP and IMAC can and must be done when creating a new email account in Mail (and this is clearly stated in the help) but as I said I created a new account and such choice possibility was missing.
3) I also use a Windows laptop and there my Yahoo acount has a POP status (as other accounts of mine like Google mail) but with Mail in MAC it gives me IMAC by defoult, why?
4) One should be able to change the status from IMAC to POP and viceversa in the System preferences/internet accounts. This can be done for some accounts but NOT for Yahoo and Google, why?
Thank you Jeff, I already knew those differences. Actually and strangely what my Mail is doing with IMAC Yahoo account is that it deletes all the messages from the server so that I cannot read them with another device.

I doubt it. Your instruction was to contact my ISP, there is NO way to contact Yahoo for such a matter, nor Google. Google by the way has a very useful and functional setting page were you can activate both pop and imac, something I've already done long ago, and yet I can't change the state from imac to pop in Mail, so evidetly there is something not working in Mail.
Because with IMAP Mail deletes authomatically all the incoming messages from the server (even when Mac is off) and therefore I cannot read them with another device (laptop or smartphone).
I have four email accounts but only with Yahoo and Google Mail application set by defoult IMAC while the others are POP. I still cannot understand why and so I could not change this situation. I'm thinking to download Firefox for Mac and use that instead of Mail...

If you read my first post I said clearly that I have already done what you suggested. In creating the new account Mail gives me no choice between IMAC and POP (as it should be according to the help).
I just have to ask, why would you want to go backwards to POP, from IMAP?
Why don't you delete your Yahoo iMap account, then restart your computer and create a new Yahoo account utilizing POP as the choice of accounts?
