Have .ics attachment in Gmail add to Apple Calendar

I have an e-mail with an .ics attachment. When I use Apple Mail to open the attachment, I get the option to add the event to my calendar, and select which calendar I want.

When I use the Gmail app to open the .ics attachment, I get a nice screen showing the calendar event, but no option to add it to any calendar. There is a share button on the screen, but no Calendar icon there either.

Is there a way to use Gmail to add an .ics event to my Apple calendar?

iPad Pro, iOS 13

I did read the Google article. It only works when you embed a schema in the e-mail, as opposed to attaching an .ics file, which is what I'm doing. I suppose I could masquerade as a restaurant and create the schema, but that might be too much work.

From all I've read, you can't get the ios Gmail app to create a calendar event from an .ics file. The user has to use the native Mail app to do so. Gmail displays a beautiful calendar event when you open the e-mail, but won't add it to the calendar.

Thanks for your reply.

Hi there, fhsmith11,

Thanks for visiting the Apple Support Communities. I understand that when you receive an email with a Calendar event attached, the Gmail mail app on your iPad is not offering you the option to add it to your Calendar. I'm happy to help!

According to the information provided by Google, events are automatically added to your Calendar, provided they come in the form of a confirmation email from certain businesses (such as an airline flight confirmation or restaurant reservation confirmation). To learn more about how Google states the Gmail app should work with your Calendar app on iPad, read through Events from Gmail - iPhone & iPad - Calendar Help. The "Troubleshooting: Events from Gmail don't show up in Calendar" section will provide more information on determining why your events are not appearing.

If you have additional questions or concerns about how the Gmail app works on your iPad, please reach out to Google directly: Contact us – Google.

Best.
