Hello my husband has an iPhone 8 plus and it randomly went off last night even though it was charged and won’t turn back on. We’ve tried plugging it in to a new charger we’ve tried doing a hard reset we even tried plugging it in to his MacBook and it doesn’t read that there is a phone plugged in. The phone is literally lifeless, except he can except phone calls and texts on his tablet and his watch. It’s makes absolutely zero sense! Help!!!

So the phone is completely dead, correct? Is the battery merely out of charge?
1) Check the charging port for lint or other debris
2) Won't charge: If your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch won‘t charge
3) Computer won't recognize: If your computer doesn't recognize your iPhone, iPad, or iPod
4) Service: iPhone Repair

Try a reset - Press/release Volume Up, then press/release Volume Down, then hold Power for 30 seconds.
If his carrier let him use wifi calling, that doesn't require a phone once it's set up on iPad.
Also, text messages between others Apple devices go through the internet and doesn't need a phone/carrier at all - that's why iPod users could text without any phone capabilities. What he won't receive are messages from non-Apple users, which do need a phone/carrier.
