Cracked screen while on charger!

Last night I put my Apple 3 watch on the charger when I went to bed. This morning I picked it up and the entire face/screen of the watch fell loose! I couldn't believe what I was seeing. There were no visible cracks or damage when I put the watch on the charger. When I googled the problem I discovered this was a recurring problem with the watches and Apple had even begun replacing some for free. The screen cracks on all four sides at the curve. They have all but admitted it is a design fault which it obviously is.

I am not saying I treated this watch like fine crystal...it is my sports watch and is sold as such. When I took it in to the Apple Genius bar I was told that since one of the cracks went toward the center of the phone they would not cover it under this program ( $229 if I wanted it fixed). I was very disappointed and said as much. I have been a big Apple fan and own a Mac Air, iPad Pro, and my wife and I have always had iPhones. Apple built a flawed product and now are not standing behind it....SAD.
