Key won't stay connected to keyboard

I had a few stuck keys that I removed carefully to clean last week. All of the keys work fine now except my “W” key. The hinge itself will not stay clicked into the keyboard at all.

Every time that I put the hinge down, I put the keycap back on and the whole key falls off with the hinge stuck to it after pressing on it a couple of times. The hinge itself doesn’t seem to be broken or anything.

Is anyone here able to identify what's wrong? I don't want to take it into GeekSquad or anything if it's an easy fix

Do it yourself keyboard repair is not recommended.

In or out of warranty you can get a free over the counter 'Apple Service Diagnostics' test /assessment
