Adding ringtones to the phone in Catalina

I have a short track, 39 seconds. It's .m4r and shows in info as a ringtone. It's in the Tones folder of the iTunes Media folder.. There is no Tones section in the Finder syncing window.

In iPhone Settings, I don't see the ringtone listed. I do however see an old ringtone that isn't in the Tones folder.

Does anyone know how to add and remove ringtones in Catalina?

I found this:

What can you sync with the Finder

  • Albums, songs, playlists, movies, TV shows, podcasts, books, and audiobooks.
  • Photos and videos.
  • Contacts and calendars.

I guess that means ringtones can't be synced?

On the other hand this support page https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT207955 indicates that the Finder can be used to sync custom ringtones.

Thanks very much for any insight.

I have always been told, and made my tones 30. Let me check the info I've used.

EDIT: See this user tip from turingtest2, and it does say less than 40 seconds, 30 seconds for text tones. Create and manage ringtones - Apple Community It contains a section about Catalina. My apology.
