... figured it all out. Simply changed the name of the song to M4r.
Its added to "tones" in my iTunes on my computer.
However, it does not show up in my iPhone's ringtones.
Not sure if Im missing steps here. Not sure if I need to do another step in order for the "tone" on my computer to be added to my iPhone "ringtones"... Yes, I have my iPhone plugged into my laptop lol.
thanks
I'm not an expert, but I think once you've saved the song in "tones" you need to check the song (in tones) then sync your phone while still in tones.
Good luck
Thanks Doug. But it wont work.
Ive tried that and it still isnt showing up in my iPhone's ringtones.
I still have the same generic tones in my phone :-(
Have you managed to figure this out yet? I'm in the same boat as you :-(
NO i have not. 😟
strange that we cannot sync the tune that we make onto our phones.
Here are my instructions!!
To customize ringtones right on Itunes:
To get ringtone tab under Itunes Library:
Hi!
I'm trying to do this on an iPhone4 with a Macbook. I've gotten to the stage where you drag the new .m4r to iTunes, but it won't appear in the tones section! Any help would be great!
On my iPhone 4, "general" does not have ringtones. But "Sounds" that is listed under "General" does. And when i sync, the ringtone that i made and saved in iTunes on my laptop does not show in my phone ringtones.
No one seems to address this problem.
Thank you
Here's my simple guide to create a ringtone and add it to your ringtone menu on your Iphone.
Step 1: Go to http://online-audio-converter.com/
Step 2: Add your song by pressing the "Open files" button.
Step 3: Mark "Iphone ringtone"
Step 4: Move the cursor to "Best 320 kbps"
Step 5: Press "Convert"
Step 6: Press "Download" and place the song in your favorite folder
Step 7: Open Itunes
Step 8: Open "File" and press "Add to Library"
Step 9: Find your song and doubleclick on it
Step 10: Attach your Iphone to your computer
Step 11: Press your Iphone icon in the right corner
Step 12: Press "Tones" and mark "All tones" or "Selected tones"
Step 13: Press "Sync"
Step 14: Congratulations the ringtones you chose to sync will now be available in your ringtone directory
"Settings" "Sounds" "Ringtone"
Hope that i could help you, there's alot of steps but i wanted everybody to be able to do it.
After you've done it 1 time it's easy 😀
By the way this can be used for all song formats, if you want to add the songs that you'we bought on Itunes as ringtones write a message to me and i will post a guide for it. 😉
Fantastic!
took me a couple of goes - I kept converting to an MP3 by mistake - but once I realised what I was doing wrong, it was SOOOOOO easy!!!!
Thanks again, Patrick🙂

glad everything is designed for the US of A,what about the rest, just happy i guess, that we buy apple stuff.
I've followed all of these steps, and when I drag the m4r back into itunes, it does not show up in the 'Tones' section, even though I've tried to copy and paste it there, as well as simply drag it over to iTunes. This is ridiculously frustrating.
