iPhone 11 stops wireless charging until reboot (long-ish post)
So here's the deal. My wife and I got iPhone 11 at the same time in December. She got green, I got red. My phone has had no issues, and I love it. Her phone stopped charging on the wireless charger after about 2 weeks. I tried my phone on her charger, no problem. She tried her phone on my charger, didn't work. I restarted the phone, and it worked. Awesome!
A few days later, it happened again. I looked online, found some posts about the optimized charging setting, so I turned that off. Didn't make a difference. Looked online some more, saw that there were some problems after 13.1, but we were already on 13.2 I think. So I restarted the phone, it worked. Great!
A couple days later, it happened again, so I went through the Apple Support app on her phone and chatted with somebody. They asked a bunch of questions, and then suggested I back up the phone and do a factory reset. I did that, and of course it worked. For a few days.
I contacted support again, and they remotely ran a diagnostic check which gave no indication of a problem. They suggested we take it to the Apple store which is an hour away from us. No problem. I made sure not to restart the phone before I took it so the tech could see what happens. The tech ended up running more diagnostics, but everything showed the hardware was good, but he saw that it wasn't charging. He restarted it, and it charged again.
He concluded that the charging coil must have a problem, and since that is not meant to be a replaceable part, he replaced the phone. Yay! It worked! For about 2 weeks... seriously.
Finally, yesterday, I took the phone back to the Apple store, and another tech looked into the history, and also tried running a diagnostic again. He asked if we had installed a backup or if we had done a clean install. I had installed a backup, so he wiped the phone again and did a clean install. My wife has only downloaded a few of her apps from the App Store, and this afternoon it stopped charging again. Wha???
Again, it is almost March, and my red iPhone is running strong. Her second green iPhone is not working properly. I don't want to drive an hour just to have somebody restart the phone again. I want her hundreds-of-dollars piece of technology that is a few weeks old to work as advertised.
I know it doesn't make sense, but are there any differences between the hardware inside a green iPhone and the other colors? Could this be a green iPhone problem? I know there have been others with the issue, but I haven't seen the color of their phones mentioned. I'm sure I'm grasping at straws here, but I'm out of ideas other than switching back to Pixel which never had a problem like this. iPhones are supposed to "just work."
HELP!!!
