Try resetting the FCP X Preferences.

Hold Option-Command as you launch FCP X.

If that does not work close FCP X and hold only the Option key.

You can create a New Project. Does a new Project crash?

Projects can become corrupt, usually render files. Delete the Project Render files as another option.

Ah, so you weren't expecting it to crash! (^_^)

I often get hangs or crashes. I do the Opt-Cmd Start reset trick and it just happens again later. It doesn't happen often enough to do anything about it. I do get tired of reestablishing my preferred settings when I use the Opt-Cmd Start trick.

BTW, I "love" the error message "unexpected error." I wasn't expecting an error! I guess it makes sense from the programmer's perspective, but not the user's! Actually, I guess the program wasn't expecting an error, either!
