Lost Contacts names

Apple what's going On? - I'm using iPhone 11 Pro and My daughter iPhone X - updated to latest 13.3.1

1) I can't see any of my contact names on iMessages/text messages - only the person phone number are shown - tried various online "fix" without any luck

2) Overnight my daughter (and 1 more that I know of) lost approx 130 contacts - their are completely gone and doing a restore doesn't fix this - even tried a Data recovery tool without any luck.

Anyone experienced this and know how to fix?

(or Do we need to 'abandon' our iPhones/iOS and invest in Android ??

Contacts are neither stored locally on an iPhone nor in SIM. They are synced to an email account that you had Google, iCloud, AOL, Exchange, Outlook, Yahoo or any Other

  1. How many Contacts account (email client server) you have?
  2. What is your default Contacts Account?
  3. Which email account you are using to store Contacts?

  • See the GIF below for Contacts and Default Account

  • Learn how to add an email account and make it default (Watch the GIF)
  • This example is for Gmail but the process remains same for all Google, iCloud, AOL, Exchange, Outlook, Yahoo or any Other

Sorry, but Apple can't be reached by posting here, we are all users here, just like you.

Are the names also missing for the android users, you are sending text messages to?

If you are using iCloud to sync your contacts, did you try to log into your iCloud Account on the computer and check, if the contact info is still saved in iCloud?

If you open the account settings in iCloud, you will find the option to restore contacts at the bottom of the page, in case the info is gone in the iCloud contact app as well.

If you backed up to iTunes on your computer, the latest backup should still contain the contact information.
