IPad is Disabled

Hello! my daughter's iPad somehow got a password on it and we got locked out. I was able to clear the info and reboot the iPad to original setting but now the screen is saying "iPad is Disabled. Connect to iTunes." When i plug the iPad into the computer's USB I get a message that it cannot connect to iTunes without a passcode. I seem stuck. Does anyone know what i can do or steps to log back into this iPad? thanks!
