File -> Share -> DVD...

Settings

Output Device: shows Hard Drive but not DVD optical drive.

I burned a CD yesterday so the drive works

Help says:

Output Device: To burn a disc, choose an optical drive. To create a disk image (.img) file that you can copy to an external storage device or burn to DVD media later, choose Hard Drive.

optical drive is not a choice, only Hard Drive

Seems odd that the System sees the DVD drive but FCP X does not.

Try resetting the FCP X preferences.

Hold Option-Command as you launch FCP X.

A re-boot of the computer can work wonders as well.

I use a Task Bar menu option for discs:

It is part os the OS.

Macintosh HD>System>Library>Core Services>Menu Extras>Eject.menu.

It's a quick way to verify if the optical drive is seen and working or not.

Resetting preferences did the trick. Now the optical drive is available to FCP X.

To burn an actual video DVD from the Finder one only needs to control-click the .img file and choose burn.

Hard to say without computer information. Try doing hard drive and see if you can burn from the Finder.

Ah, but you have to have a blank DVD in before you get that burn option.

I get 'Could not burn "DiskName". The disk image is invalid.'

I can right click the .img file and open it with DiskImageMounter successfully.

I'm not sure how burning a .img file is going to make it any more playable than burning a disk folder with VIDEO_TS files in it.

I'm not sure if no audio would cause FCP X to get in a twist.

I do recall of something similar occuring in some app (can't recall specifics) that expected an audio track when none was present. That was the culprit

Do a few tests to confirm.
