Black screen with carplay

Saw this old thread but I've just started using Pandora on my 2017 honda crv. I've just had the car a few months. My screen freezes on Pandora then goes black and restarts and won't change off Pandora. Then I can't get anything. They have changed out the radio panel but still freezes. I've got the latest update on iphone xr. Any answers?

If you don't see the CarPlay interface then you are streaming from your phone to the Pandora app within the built-in Honda app, not CarPlay.

If you are using Pandora within CarPlay your screen looks like this, before it starts:

And when it us running:

If you are using Pandora through HondaLink, your screen will have a layout similar to this:

This is an issue with the OS that the Honda runs, called "HondaLink". If you do a search for your symptoms you will see that this is an issue, especially when scrolling or track changes. An eventual trip (or trips) to the dealer eventually resolves it.

To clarify. The Honda factory system has Pandora built into it. You also can have the app within CarPlay. Is this Pandora that's built into the car or Pandora within CarPlay? A picture will tell us volumes.

Are you using CarPlay with a wire or wirelessly? What exactly is the iOS version of your phone? Do you have the larger display audio or the 5 inch model? Again, pictures would be helpful.

Even finding pictures off the internet somewhere will help, just show us what you're seeing.

Ios 13.3.1. I'm not sure how it's playing. Pandora is on the screen where it shows source. Sirius xm, FM radio, etc. But it is wireless. I'm not real computer savvy. It does show it playing on my phone when it's on the car screen. It's larger than 5 inch screen. I can't take a picture because it's at the Honda dealership now. Left there twice and it went out again. Went back for a 3rd time and they kept it overnight. Now I'm wondering if it's on Apple end and not their abilities.

Yes it's the 2nd screen. Although yesterday the

Representative I was talking to went to carplay on my phone to connect. But I select source view and it shows what source to play. Whether it's radio, Sirius, ipod Pandora. I select Pandora and it connects to Pandora. Then after playing a while it goes black, comes up with starting screen with an H for Honda the brings up screen with a P for Pandora but no music and I can't get out of it. Only thing that works is to turn off car and restart to get out of app. Reading all the previous threads you'd think they would be familiar with the problem. Thanks.

Sorry, it's not an iPhone or CarPlay issue. This is a Honda issue. As much as I hate reddit, I recommend reading the many threads describing your exact issue.

I'm curious about something though. When the representative opened CarPlay then went to Pandora within CarPlay to listen to music, did the same issue happen? I only read one other thread where this was the case. Most others just give up on using the built in Pandora that Honda provides and end up using CarPlay or Android Auto, depending on what type of phone they have.

Please keep us posted. This will help others.

A link will work just fine. Best we let the service technician do his job and see what they can figure out. It's good to give techs as much breathing room as possible, they have incredibly difficult jobs these days.

Let us know how it goes.
