Can't see Documents in Files app on iPad

I have recently taken out the 2TB icloud package and started uploading all my files to it. I can view them fine on my imac and iphone via the Files app but when I try and open the Files app on my ipad it shows nothing: "0 items, 1.83 TV available in icloud"

Initially it was still showing the stuff that was in there when I had the free 5GB package, so I deleted them and now it shows nothing.

I have tried several times turning the icloud on/off in settings and tried switching the tablet on/off including with the icloud on and with the icloud off. I have also tried deleting the app and reinstalling it but nothing works.

I am now out of ideas - please help as I want to be able to access the files on my tablet too.....
