When I paired my Apple Watch with my new phone none of my activity history moved with it.

Hi, I got a iPhone 11 Pro Max yesterday an when I paired my Apple Watch with it none of my activity history moved with it. Is there a way that I can get all my old activity history such as my workouts an all to hook up to my new phone where I paired it to my new phone?

Hi Erin,

When you setup your iPhone 11 Pro Max, did you set it up as new and then paired your Apple Watch with it? If you used this procedure then your iPhone and your Apple Watch were both set up as new.

Question - Do you have a backup from your previous iPhone & Apple Watch either on iCloud or your computer? That backup (if you have one) will also contain the information from your Apple Watch when you had all your workout data. If you restore your iPhone from that backup then you will have your Apple Watch data migrated as well.

I believe the best way to get your Apple Watch data on to your new iPhone is to backup the old iPhone on a computer and then restoring the new iPhone from that backup. This will import all your Apple Watch data as well and you need to pair the Apple Watch again.

Here is how to Backup your iPhone on a computer - Your Old iPhone

Hope this helps and Good luck.

Erin,

Read the following carefully. You are not synching your old iPhone. You are creating a backup.

How to back up with your computer

  1. Connect your device to your computer. On a Mac with macOS Catalina 10.15, open Finder. On a Mac with macOS Mojave 10.14 or earlier, or on a PC, open iTunes.
  2. If a message asks for your device passcode or to Trust This Computer, follow the onscreen steps. If you forgot your passcode, get help.
  3. Locate your device on your computer. If your device doesn't appear on your computer, learn what to do.
  4. If you want to save Health and Activity data from your device or Apple Watch, you need to encrypt your backup: Select the box called Encrypt [device] backup and create a memorable password. If you don't need to save your Health and Activity data, you can make a backup that isn't encrypted. Just click Back Up Now.

Hi Erin,

Yes, you will lose what you currently have on your new iPhone when you restore from a backup file created with your old iPhone. Once your restore from your old iPhone then your new iPhone will have exactly the same data as in the old iPhone and this includes all of the contacts and photos that you had on it.

If you already have a lot of new data on your new iPhone (Pictures & Contacts etc) then you may not want to do this. You will need to figure out which data set is more important to you.

Please check a few things for me on your OLD iPhone-

  • Which model is your old iPhone?
  • Which version of iOS is running on it?
  • Need you to check whether an iCloud backup exists. To check that on your old iPhone, go to Settings-->>Apple ID (Your name at the top)-->>iCloud-->>iCloud Backup and on this section check to see if the switch is set to ON and if it is then what does it state under Backup Now?
  • Finally, when you tried to backup your old iPhone to your computer what was the error message that you got? I ask because you said that the backup was not successful.

The above will help me provide an alternative method to transfer data if possible. Thanks.

Perfect! Great Progress. Don't forget the password you used for the encrypted backup that you are in the process of creating. You will be asked for it when you restore the data to your new iPhone.

Once again below is the link to the instructions when you Restore your new iPhone from the backup that you are creating.

To summarize,

  1. Backup your iPhone on a computer - Your Old iPhone.
  • This will backup ALL your Photos, Contacts, Email, Apps data, Apple Watch data (as it exists in your old iPhone and activity data included) to your computer and instructions are in the link above.

-2. Restore your iPhone from a backup created on a computer - Your new iPhone

  • This will completely erase all the data that currently exists on your new iPhone.
  • It will install all the data that you had from the old iPhone. Your new iPhone will look and have the same information as your old iPhone when the restoration is completed. Photos, Contacts, Apps data, Apple Watch data etc.
  • Once the restoration has been completed then you can pair your Apple Watch to your new iPhone again and it will have your activity data as you once had on your old iPhone.
