Trying to use keyboard from MBA to ATV (A1469/software ver. 7.4) via Bluetooth. Is this no longer supported? Can, randomly, get the verification code to show on both MBA and ATV, but ATV never connects/accepts. Have tried two different ATVs. Latest software on both ATVs and MBA.

No. The only bluetooth functionality on the 3rd gen is for pairing an external keyboard. As stated you cannot pair a Mac via Bluetooth. The only way you can pair a Mac is to use airplay for mirroring and streaming media (from iTunes/TV app, Safari).
I'm wondering if Bluetooth pairing beetween current MBA and G3 ATV is supported at all.

You cannot pair a Macintosh to an Apple TV to use it's builtin keyboard as an input device.
