App Store Top Icons Missing in High Sierra

I have a 2011 Macbook Pro that can only max out at High Sierra. Unfortunately, after reinstalling High Sierra from scratch, the App Store no longer has: Featured, Top Charts, Categories, Purchased, and Updates.

I usually use the Purchased and Updates sections. The problem with this being gone is that with family share, a family member who uses High Sierra cannot access my purchased software that they should otherwise be able to access and in turn will be charged for it. Also there is no way to view a list of purchased software without that icon. Now if I know what app I purchased, for example, Logic Pro X, then it's not going to charge me and I can just download it.

I know those icons were on High Sierra. I've double-checked this repository of MacOS screenshots to confirm that it was there. It's not just my Mac, because we have another 2011 Mac Mini that does not show these icons either. That almost tells me that some recent update to High Sierra took those icons out.

Anyone know how I can get those back? Maybe install an older build of High Sierra? Or maybe even go down to Sierra?

I phoned Apple Care about this and the action that has so far worked to restore the top icons was to open Keychain Access via Spotlight, open its Preferences from the drop-down, then click on 'Reset My Default Keychains' but do not proceed when your password is requested, i.e. cancel the request. This for now has restored the App Store top icons for me and is still the case after a restart. Hope it works for you and others with this issue.

To find out if it's system wide or user specific, try this...

Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at startup), does the problem occur in Safe Mode?

Safe mode attempts to repair Disks & clears lots of caches, so if Safe Mode works try again in regular boot.

Open System Preferences>Users & Groups, unlock the lock, click on the little plus icon, make a new admin account, log out & into the new account.

Does it work in the new account?

If it fails also then seems a reinstall is needed.

So you downgraded to macOS Sierra and everything was OK. Then you upgraded to High Sierra and the problem with the App Store happened again. Did you use the same High Sierra installer you used previously. If so I would consider downloading a 'new'/ another copy of the High Sierra installer.

Take the High Sierra installer you have and copy it to another disk and then disconnect that disk from your mac. Delete any copies of the High Sierra installer from your mac. Connect your mac to your router via cable rather than rely on WiFi. Restart your mac and go to Section 4 of the following link,

How to upgrade to macOS High Sierra - Apple Support

Do not use the mac while it is downloading, do not use other devices that share the same internet

connection while the download is in progress.

Holy cow!

A bit inexplicable????

EtreCheck is a simple little app to display the important details of your system configuration and allow you to copy that information to the Clipboard. It is meant to be used with Apple Support Communities to help people help you with your Mac.

Pastebin is a good place to paste the whole report...

Or use the paperclip at the bottom of a Reply to attach the full report here. :)

Workable but harder for me to work with...the Note tool on the bottom of this editor's toolbar, as shown in the image, to copy and paste the output from EtreCheck.

I attached the Etrecheck results. I did try installing Sierra and with that, the top icons for App Store were present. Then from there I upgraded to High Sierra and the top icons were no longer present.

Also in the Store menu, below Back, Forward, Reload Page, and Search, I have the following:

  • Sign Out
  • View My Account
  • Check for Unfinished Downloads

It is unreasonable that you can't find the authorized Featured downloads that are acquired legally and in time to upgrade your expensive MacBook to High Sierra in the App Store Purchases due to policy changes to make money from the sale of newer machines in the Apple Store. I purchased the High Sierra and other earlier editions of MacOS and MacOS x only to find them missing after upgrades and time and policy changes. In Australia it is illegal to adhere to such practices. Apple must comply and reinstate the purchases or put all the old install DMG's onto a site for download so people can get there original MacBook Pro's up and running. If not then I am certain that the MacBook Pro fails under law in many countries to be:

Guarantees applying to goods

A supplier and a manufacturer guarantee that:• goods are of acceptable quality • goods will match any description provided • any express warranties will be honoured.A supplier guarantees that a consumer is buying goods:• that have clear title, unless otherwise stated• that do not have undisclosed securities• that are fit for any disclosed purpose• with a right to undisturbed possession• that match the sample or demonstration model provided

So Apple is totally responsible for past purchases in regards to normal operations of a purchased MacBook Pro no matter of the year of purchase.

You're saying you don't see the above when you open the App Store? I'm running HS 10.13.6 with all the recent updates on a late 2014 Mac Mini and the App Store has the above. I don't know of any way to hide that top portion.

If you reinstalled High Sierra after erasing your Macintosh HD, the App Store app should have installed with all the selections above. You could try booting into Recovery Mode (Command+R) and reinstall High Sierra on top of itself. This will only reinstall the OS and not touch any of your data. But, you should do a system back up before reinstalling.

You could try clicking on Store in the menu bar and select the tab you want to view.
