Apple TV conflicting with 5Ghz Wireless connection

I purchased a couple of days ago a TP Link Archer C6 Gigabit Wireless router. It seems that everytime the Apple TV gets connected to the 5Ghz network, the whole network would drop in 30 seconds to 1 minute.

Firstly I thought there is something wrong with the router, but I returned it and got a brand new one (the same model - Archer C6)

I got in touch with the support team from TP Link and they took a look into the router’s settings and everything seems fine. The accesed my laptop through Team Viewer and did some tests. Did any of you guys encountered with this situation ? If yes, how did you got rid of this issue ?

Hello,

Within the router's configuration utility, temporarily try separating the 2.4GHz and 5GHz networks. From there you should then see 2 separate networks appear on your devices. From here you can connect your Apple TV back up to the 5GHz network to see if the problem still persists. You can then try connecting your Apple TV to the 2.4GHz network etc.

  • Apple TV 4K will ask up to 25 Mbps of bandwidth for top tier 4K HDR content. Meaning higher speeds can only be used for downloads of apps, updates and screen savers — but not for viewing content.
  • 2.4 GHz vs. 5 GHz band is a bit more complex than linear speeds, as 5 GHz doesn’t have the range of the 2.4 GHz band (about 1⁄3). 5 GHz is also more susceptible to wireless interference.
  • Try a different location/different network to confirm that your Apple TV box works nicely with 5 GHz Wi-Fi bands.
