Understanding Disk Utility

Hi, I was using disk utility and I noticed some things I was hoping someone could help me with.. I run my OS from an external SSD and it has this red bar when viewing the space. It's "other volumes" and grey viewing another container... Is this normal ? Does the red signify anything? It also does it with my other hard drive I just Partioned Also was wondering if anyone knew what the "other" is under my system? Thanks in advance!

macOS Catalina uses different volumes to separate the operating system from the rest of your data for better security. What you see in Disk Utility is that the "Mac OS (Do Not Eject)" is macOS itself, and that "Mac OS (Do Not Eject) - Data" is all of your stuff, including apps, photos, documents, etc. macOS does a little bit of work behind the scenes, however, to make these two volumes seem to be one during actual use, so you'll only see one volume mounted on your desktop rather than two, and you'll be able to seamlessly navigate the volumes in Finder.
