Mid 2014 MacBook Pro is constantly crashing. Restarts 5+ times per day

How do I stop my computer from crashing all the time? It just freezes up in the middle of use, or even more commonly, it freezes and crashes when I open it up from being asleep.

Almost every time I open my computer , it crashes. Makes working very hard. And I use this computer heavily throughout the day on the job.

It's been crashing like this for well over a year. Used to just be once or twice a day. Now it happens so often it's unbearable.

Not sure if this is software or hardware related but I'm on one of the most recent versions of Catalina v10.15.1 (19B88)

Your disk Drive is either really full and/or really messed up. This is Not a minor problem. You are completely out of space and it is a wonder your computer works at all.

You appear to have only 14.62 GB free. To put that in perspective, MacOS is said to require over 9GB just to start up.

I do not understand how your Volume named Macintosh HD data could be so full. It is supposed to contain only the invariant portion of MacOS Catalina and later, and be read-only. That should be under about 30GB.

Dropbox is not a package that should NOT be allowed to run at all time. It is not MacOS native, and therefore will scan unrelentingly looking for changed files, a major drain on system resources. You should remove it from launching at Startup and run it only when you choose to run it.

First—Uninstall any third party "Anti-virus/Ceaners/Optimizers/Speeder uppers" apps you may have installed—this is known cause for issues like yours.

Boot into Recovery (Command R) and from the dropdown menu: Utilities>  Disk Utility> run the First Aid on your Macintosh HD (and the "Macintosh HD-Data" volume as well if Catalina) If errors are found and repaired, run again until no errors reported.

Recovery: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204904

Then update your software to the more stable release macOS 10.15.3

Combo update macOS 10.15.3 https://support.apple.com/kb/DL2030

If you are still having issues—

To get a good look at your System config. for conflicts or issues, you can run this trusted utility http://etrecheck.com

If you need help interpreting the report you can post it here in its entirety in the "Additional Text" box in the editing toolbar below, in your reply.

You can set its preference to "Allow full Disk Access", with this you get a digest of issues from the last 7 days that are saved in your system.

You can Not use that much. You must leave far more free.

When disk space gets low, your drive becomes fragmented, and even through seek time is not a big issue with an SSD, it means reading and writing files must be done in many many little pieces, and that still takes far longer.

If your drive gets completely full, the crash that results can easily cause loss of directory integrity and real loss of data.

You have way too much third-party Junk on your computer for well-behaved and responsive operation. "Junk" in this context is things that are perfectly good, but you do not happen to need right now, like things in the attic. Downloading any software to counter this is crazy-talk. You need to diligently remove the things you use least and throw them away, and others should be run only on demand.
