New MacBook Email Problem

I have been setting up my new MacBook and I am having trouble with my Email. I got my incoming mail to work but I can’t send out any emails. When I check the preferences I get a green on my incoming mail but a red on outgoing. When I check further it shows the out going mail server as hotmail (off line) and I can’t seem to get it on line. I’m beginning to think it doesn’t like hotmail. Any suggestions. Sending from my iPad. Please and thanks.

You need to find out the correct outgoing server address is for your Hotmail account. It may be helpful to go to the Hotmail help page to find out how to use it with Apple Mail. Hotmail was not an IMAP mail account. Be sure you select POP account in Mail unless you have an IMAP account.

In Mail's Window Menu, choose Connection Doctor, any red dots for status, if so what is the message?

Then click the Show Details button & Check again.

OK, might use a browser to login to your WebMail account & see if there's something like allowlesssecure devices...

Thanks for your assistance it was appreciated. I tried the lifewire.com went through each step. Ended with the same result still can’t send out mail. I will try again another day to discouraged today. Thanks again. For your assistance. Have a good day.

Thanks again for trying to help. My mind feels like jello now I think I’ll walk away from it for a while thanks again for your assistance. I may call out again when my mind clears. I just don’t understand how I can receive mail but not send out mail.

OK, I understand, generally speaking it requires more security to Send as an anti spamming measure.
