Password "needs to be updated"? Again and again...?

Hello,

Very often when I log in or restart my Mac I see this message:

How can I be sure (or check) that this message is from Apple?

And why again and again?

Can this be stopped?

Thanks.

Log in to Apple using this URL: https://appleid.apple.com/

If you successfully logged in to this site using those Apple ID credentials then it was not from Apple.

The dialog alleges the need to change your Apple ID credentials. Use the website I linked to manage it. You used it to sign into this website, presumably without any difficulty.

The field you obscured doesn't appear to be long enough to comprise an Apple ID—and please do not reveal what it is on this site.

Refer to Apple ID - Official Apple Support.

Thanks again, however I don't get it!

The message says the password needs to be updated.

Why? I can't imagine why. I can continue using it. It works.

And yes you are right, my Apple ID (which I use for "iTunes", Mac App Store, this forum here etc.) isn't an email address. It's old, it didn't have to be an email address.

Years ago I had to set up an additional Apple ID (using an email address) to be able to use iCloud.

So I have two. What's wrong with that?

I had one of them as well, but Apple insisted upon changing it to an email address many years ago. If you managed to avoid that requirement it could explain the appearance of that dialog.

Try using the URL I provided earlier, but don't be surprised if it refuses to proceed unless you comply with that requirement.

Nothing is wrong with having two Apple IDs. It's just inconvenient. You may be experiencing a manifestation of that inconvenience.
