I want to delete a second user account that is also an admin. I've opened "users and groups" and unlocked it so I can make changes. My name is highlighted, but I can't highlight the account I want to delete. I know I have to use the minus sign to delete the account, but how do I highlight the account I want to get rid of? I'm using OS X El Capitan.

Switch to that account and from the Apple menu choose logout.
I was asking if the other account was logged in. If it is then it needs to be logged out.
Other than that, I'm not sure why you're getting that message. I'd imagine you could delete the account from another startup disk if you have one?
Is it possible for both accounts to be logged in at the same time? I thought that switching from one to the other meant someone had to log out.
