When I get a photo I tap it and it puts a check beside photo and it will not enlarge by pinch and won’t give option to save etc. I can hit cancel at to and it takes check off but still can’t save enlarge or anything. Driving me crazy!!!!

When I tap on a photo in a text message, It enlarges and gives me the share icon in the upper right corner from which I get the option to save the image. I get no check mark at all.
The only time I get the check mark is if I tap on the contact at the top of the screen to get Info, tap on Info and then tap on “See all photos”. From there if I tap on Select and then tap on individual photos, I get the check mark. I also get a Save option in the lower left corner.
What are the steps that you are using to save photos from a text?
