2017 iPad Pro 10.5 inch screen goes black

My iPad Pro 10.5 inch 2017 screen is turned black completely. I connected it to iTunes and did full hard reset — updated the software to ios13 as well. I can see the iPad details in iTunes but the screen is still black.

I turned on the voice over with triple click on the home button and I can hear the voice when I click on the screen anywhere but no luck with the screen. iPad is physically in excellent condition but out of warranty. Apple won’t fix it and they asked me to pay $450 + tax for replacement iPad.

One more thing I observed is if I keep my iPad just like that for few hours then next time when click on the home button, the screen turns on perfectly fine but after few swipes/touches it goes black again.

By the way, my iPad is in excellent physical condition and never dropped. Its hard to see that why its screen is not working. Perhaps this is a manufacturing defect.

Thanks

iPad Pro, iOS 13

Whatever you mentioned above doesn't answer my question and i am well aware of these things.

It's better to wait for other people to respond if they are also facing similar issue, that way we will come to know if this is wide spread problem for apple to come up with a solution.

Therefore its my kind request to you, to not to respond on this query and let other people respond.

Thanks

As i mentioned, i can hear voice over sound and iPad is working except the screen is not working as expected.

Another thing i noticed is the screen comes on after sometime when i keep the ipad as it is for sometime. This seems like a manufacturing fault.

For device for which customer has paid $600, and if it breaks within couple of years then there is quality control issue here especially when the iPad was not dropped or no physical damage to the iPad.

Instead of suggesting me to pay the price, why don't you suggest some options to fix this issue. By the way, Recently Apple agreed to replace screens on Apple ipad Air 3 with similar issue.

If you are unable or unwilling to pay for the replacement device, then there is nothing anyone here will be able to do for you.

This is a hardware failure.

These are mobile computing devices.

Things can happen to these devices at anytime, for any reason without any warning.

Nothing is failure-proof.

Sorry, but it is what it is.

Good Luck to You!

Apple iPad Air 3 is less than a one-year old device and it is still covered under the standard, free-one-year AppleCare.

A 10.5 inch screen iPad Pro, without paid, extended two-year AppleCare+ is no longer under warranty.

So, non-warranty repair/replacement pricing applies.

If you attempt to get this fixed though a third party repair center, these repair centers do not have access to new, genuine Apple parts and they will, most likely, replace the entire screen assembly with either a cannabalised screen from another known good 10.5 inch screen iPad Pro or use a screen from another third party source of screens, and you will not know if the screen gets replaced with one that has the 120Hz refesh rate and will still work with an Apple Pencil. Also, there are complication with the Home button/Touch ID sensor needing a special Apple reset code, if the button needs to be tampered with/removed/disconnected to remove the screen and replace it.

Also, getting any Apple device repaired through a non-Apple authorised repair center means you forfeit any future hardware/software support from Apple and Apple stores, directly, for the third party repaired Apple device or computer.

We are not allowed here to make any recommendations for local or online, third party Apple repair centers, authorised or non-authorised.

So, you would need to do your own online search and make your own queries/contact/phone calls about their expertise level of Apple mobile product repairs.

If third party Apple repair centers mention they have expertise in logic board level repairs and microsoldering skills, this is usually an indicator of a professional and competent level of Apple computer and device repairs.

So, these are you options.

Good Luck to You!

Hi there.

Have you had any luck resolving this issue? I too have a 2017 iPad Pro 10.5 that, as of this evening, is suffering from exactly the same issue as yours. I purchased it brand new just over 13 months ago! It's in immaculate condition, has had very little use and has never been dropped or knocked at all. I can't believe it has failed in such a short amount of time! I'm aware of the repair program for the 3rd generation iPad Airs (which also have the 10.5 inch screen) and have been wondering if it's the same screen on both models therefor the same fault. If this is the case surely Apple need to be addressing this. If you read this can you please reply with any info you have.

Thanks, Martin.

Hi Martin

Thanks for reaching out. Unfortunately I haven’t got any answer to resolve this issue. Perhaps we need Apple to resolve this issue as it really looks like a manufacturing defect

I never dropped my iPad and it’s in pristine condition but the display doesn’t turn on at all. I tried many thing but no luck

let me know if you are able to resolve this issue

I agree with you acube_2020. Only a true helper should answer our questions. Sorry if this insults anyone, but some people who thinks they are helping are just acting like smarty pants for self gratification. It is what it is. Look in the mirror...

Now, I have the same issue and I blindly restored the iPad Pro already even though the screen is off and I needed to press "OK" to restore and update it. This better not be another ploy from Apple to get people to buy a new one, because that would mean trouble for them.

Hello there,

Thanks for replying to my previous message, I thought I'd get back in touch to let you know about my situation.

The day after my first message I phoned Apple support and explained everything regarding my iPad. I'll be totally honest with you the service I have received from Apple since has been exceptional, I have no complaints whatsoever.

Even though my iPad was almost 14 months old, under the 6 year consumer rights law we have in the UK, Apple have replaced it. They sent me the packaging, I posted the faulty iPad back to them, they tested it and agreed a replacement, I received my new iPad two days later.

Within six days of me phoning Apple support for the first time I had my replacement iPad, I really can't complain about that.

Hope you have as much luck as I did with getting your iPad issue sorted.

Martin.
