Apple TV Ethernet No Connection

Specs: Apple TV fourth generation. Standard Cat5 ethernet cable (49 feet). Belkin wireless/wired router.

When I plug in the Ethernet cable, under System it is listed as connected, however, I don't get internet. The router works fine for cabled connections with other devices.

What am I missing?

What does it say under Network settings?

Is the IP address in the normal range for your home network (usually 192.168.x.x)? (169.254.x.x would be self-assigned and not be functional for communicating with other devices or the rest of the internet.)

Does the Apple TV get the correct DNS server addresses from the router?

Have you tried restarting both the router and the Apple TV? Restarting the router can improve communication with “new” devices, as certain cached data gets properly flushed and/or renewed.

This seems to be a complex issue.

Ethernet to Airbook works but not ethernet to Apple TV using the exact same cable.

Only thing I can think of off the head is to disable WIFI on both apple TV and airbook to make sure the airbook gets internet through ethernet and not wireless.

Also do you have another cable to try in addition to this cat 5 cable.

I wish you the best of luck in the continued search.

Do you detect the router ip under Network.

I know that Apple TV works wirelesss just don't ask me how as mine is wired.

Going into a switch then into another switch and finally the last cable to the router.

@QuickPost,

As mentioned before, my macbook air works fine through an ethernet connection with the respective router I'm using. I just tested the laptop on the cat5 cable designated for the Apple TV, and the internet connection is great on the laptop.

So... obviously there is something going on with the Apple TV settings. I can tell that under "Network" it will recognize the ethernet cable and IP address type data, but does not allow for an internet connection.

What can I try next?
