Every time I reboot I receive a notification that I need to move "Libecomlodr.dylib" . I move it to trash and reboot the computer to have the same prompt appear? Any ideas? Thanks so much.

Hello charity103,

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities. I understand there is a notification asking to remove a specific file, but it continues to prompt after being removed. I'll do what I can to help.

These suggestions might work for you:

Thanks.

I’ve started getting the same alert and I’ve also tried moving it to the trash.

Doing some local searches and extensive googling, it looks to be part of a Symantec product for computer management set up by my IT and updates to Catalina have started triggering the warning.

I found a reference to it in the Library / Application Support / Symantec / SMC / tools / smbinst.sh file

Further googling lists it as a file that gets removed by Symantec removal scripts.

I’m going to guess that an update to the app is going to fix it or get it signed so that Catalina stops freaking out.

Unless your employer requires you to use Symantec Endpoint Protection you should uninstall it according to the developer's instructions. There is no need for any "cleaning", "optimizing", "speed-up" or anti-virus/protection apps. They are more detrimental to the system and application performance than good.

The macOS system's SIP (System Integrity Protection) does not need any help. Just follow the recommendations in Effective defenses against malware and other threats - Apple Community.

On a Mac computer, the GatherSymantecInfo tool will gather technical information specific to Symantec products.

The following information is shown in this report:

5.NIS 6/NFM 7 definitions' libecomlodr.dylib, definfo.dat and usage.dat files

I'm using Symantec Endpoint Protection.

The same issue appeared on my laptop after upgrading to Catalina 10.15.4. After the upgrade of Catalina, the error message came. Symantec didn't recognised the virus definitions version.

I was searching for the error on the web, but finally I uninstalled Symantec Endpoint Protection with a Mac OS reboot.

Then reinstalled Symantec Endpoint Protection, reboot Mac OS and launch the Symantec updates.

The error didn't reappeared.

Our IT guys at work had this to say:

"The file in your ticket is with the Symantec Endpoint Protection that we have on our Macs. See if you are able to uninstall the app. If you are, you can reinstall Symantec Endpoint. That should resolve your issue."

Worked for me but I'm on a corporate computer, so your mileage may vary.
