No Save Video Option

Alright, so here, here's the deal: I've been editing videos, for my Instagram TV, on my PC. Then, saving them to iCloud, downloading them onto my iPhone X, hitting "share" and "save video", all to get the video onto my phone so I can upload to my story and IGTV, as they are longer than the 1 minute video allowed for regular posts.

The issue came just the other day. All the sudden I do not have the "save video" option when I hit "share". I'm only able to select between "Copy, Add People, Add to Shared Album, and Add Tags."

Now, I have no idea what is causing it because while the one video is almost 700MB and about 3.5 minutes long, the other is far smaller and about half the size, so I really don't know...

I have tried every other method I could find online to transfer files to an iPhone and have had no luck. It's been almost 3 days I've been trying to get this to work, as I need to be able to get these videos onto my Instagram.

Please help me...lol

Hello, Proffit91.

Thanks for getting back to us on this. Sounds like you're using iCloud Drive: iCloud Drive FAQ Have you tried uploading a new/another video to see if the same thing occurs? If you have a backup copy of that video on your PC, try removing the current one and upload it again.

To help you out, have you seen this article about syncing your iPhone? Sync your iPhone, iPad, or iPod using your computer

Using iCloud Photos is a good alternative too. Using iCloud Photos should still allow you to upload your content, you just need to make sure that the video is downloaded on the device: Set up and use iCloud Photos

"Download your photos and videos

You can download a copy of your original photos or videos on iCloud.com, iOS, iPadOS, or Mac.

  • On iCloud.com, click Photos, then select the photos and videos that you want to download. Click and hold the download button  in the upper-right corner of the window. If you want to download your content as it was originally captured or imported, choose Unmodified Original. For JPEG or H.264 format — including edits, and even if it was orginally in HEIF or HEVC format — choose Most Compatible. Click download.

Make sure that you have enough storage

The photos and videos that you keep in iCloud Photos use your iCloud storage and your device storage. And as long as you have enough space in iCloud and on your device, you can store as many photos and videos as you like".

If you turn on Optimize Storage, iCloud Photos automatically manages the size of your library on your device. Your original photos and videos are stored in iCloud and space-saving versions are kept on your device. Your library is optimized only when you need space, starting with the photos and videos you access least. You can download the original photos and videos over Wi-Fi or cellular when you need them. You can use Optimize Storage on your iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, and Mac.

If you turn on Download Originals, iCloud Photos keeps your original, full-resolution photos and videos in iCloud and on your device".

Best regards.

Hi,

Thank you for your response.

I'm not sure you quite understand the exact issue. It's not an issue with videos taken using my iPhone or iCloud's Download or Upload features. I'm not using iCloud Photos for this. The problem is with my "Files" in iCloud. I should have maybe been more specific in that.

In order to upload to my Instagram story, I have to get the videos that I've edited from my PC, to my iPhone camera roll (and haven't found an easier way than what I've been doing). To do so, I've been saving the videos from my PC to my iCloud Files. From my iCloud Files, I can download the video and when I go into "Share" there is usually an option for me to "Save Video." This saves it to my camera roll, so that I can access it as if it were taken with the iPhone and upload as such because you cannot upload to most places directly from your iCloud Files. It has to be from the camera roll.

For some reason though, the two most recent videos I have tried this with do not work, as described in my initial post, and I have no idea why this would be all of the sudden.

Hopefully this helps you understand the issue a little better.

Regards

Hello, Proffit91.

Welcome to Apple Support Communities.

From what I've read is that you're unable to download photos to your iPhone. I'd like to help. If you're using iCloud Photos, the only time you'd need to download from iCloud is if you have the optimize settings turned on to help with storage. Check to see if the videos completely uploaded to the iCloud. It's possible your iPhone may have already downloaded the video which would explain why you're only getting the other options instead of download: Download iCloud photos and videos

"even if you turned on Download and Keep Originals or Download Originals to this Mac. Choosing to download your originals also impacts your device storage, so you might want to learn more about how to manage your storage".

As the article mentions, double check both your iPhone storage and iCloud.

Let me know if this helps.

Cheers!
