I've recently updated both my iMac and MBP to Catalina and ever since I can't share files which I was able to do until the OS upgrade. The message which I get when trying to access iMac from MPB is below. This message appears regardless of the folder that I try to access. Please advise. Thank you.

How to connect with File Sharing on your Mac
Be sure that the volumes you want shared on each computer are so checked as a Shared folder in their Get Into panel:

Does Finder's Go Menu, Connect to Server>Browse work any better?
Does the MBP user have rights to that folder's contents?
Can you sign in with the iMac's admin user & PW?
You need to enable file sharing on both computers, and the disks with the file you wish to access must both be set as Shared Folders in Get Into. It's a good idea to configure both computers exactly the same as the one that is working as you want.
Are you waiting long enough? If you are opening a directory with a lot of files, then it can take several minutes for all the directory data to be transferred across the connection before it will be displayed. Especially, if the directory is in Icon View.
I did go to the Safe Mode on my MBP and with the same results when trying to connect to my iMac. I can see my iMac and its external drives and the folders. However, when I click on a folder, it opens up but with no contents.

I think so. No files show up even after 20 min. Also, I've noted that there is not expand arrow on this folders that show up. That should tell me something.
Also, it's worth pointing out that I can share files on my MBP with iMac but not the other way around.
My MBP has my Public Folder set for sharing only and sharing works. My iMac has MacHD and my user name set for sharing, but not the Public Folder. I don't know if this could explain it and nor do I know where to find the Public Folder omn my iMac.

File sharing is set on both computers but I still can't access the files on the iMac. I think that it's something very simple but it's driving me crazy. It worked fine until I upgraded both machines to Catalina.
No, the same outcome.
I've tried this but still no luck. The issue that I am now having is that when I click on 'connect as', nothing happens. SO I can't sign in.
