formating external drive

I Can"t format my Lacie external drive or have it shown on my desk top, 2T drive shows only 144.12 PB. Tried all options including terminal solution didn't work. Just want my external drive fresh again and shown on my desktop so I can use time Machine . Just want to reformat it and get it ready. Please look images attached and thank you so. much. Might god protect you from any pandemic. love

The partition table is corrupt, if you can not format, then drive has failed or the enclosure controler has failed or the cable is bad.

FYI, your Terminal commands all have mistakes in them.


To destroy the current partition information on the Lacie Drive "disk2" (shown in your first screenshot of Disk Utility where the Lacie drive is selected) you can use the following command. Just make sure that "disk2" is still the drive ID for the Lacie drive. Substitute the correct drive ID in place of "disk2".

sudo  dd  if=/dev/zero   of=/dev/disk2  bs=1m  count=1000


If this command completes successfully, then you should be able to use Disk Utility to properly erase the drive (assuming the drive is good).


Be extremely careful in making sure you have the correct drive ID or you could destroy important data with this command.
