Yellow SSD Drive icon on desk top

I purchased a 1/2 TB SSD Drive and installed it following all the instructions. The icon on the desk top appears yellow. Is it formatted improperly?

Can't change SSD's icon I have an external SSD that has two partitions. One partitions contains a backup of the MacOS System (13.4.1) and is bootable. The other partition contains only files. I was able to change the icon on the "files" partition but cannot change the icon on the "system" partition. I have tried a different icon that was used elsewhere with no problems. So I don't think it can be the icon file itself. In the info window, the new icon shows in the Preview section but does not show up on the desk top icon. I have an identical "setup" on an external HDD and both partitions have been changed successfully. Paul

Is a yellow drive icon an SSD It's been awhile since my last Mini (Mavericks was new), and I have a WD Passport external drive (EXFAT) connected as a media drive, to my M1. Its icon is golden or yellow. Is that a definite indicator that the drive is an SSD? If I listen closely to it when writing files, I can still hear ticking sounds like an HDD would make.

Most Added SSD drives are considered External drives, and their default color is yellow.

Where did you attach it?

In Terminal execute this command...

diskutil list
