iPhone/ iPad keep connecting and disconnecting with (newest mode) MacBook Air

My wife has an MacBook Air, latest model.

When connecting her iPhone or iPad to the MacBook Air with the standard Apple USB-Lightning cable the connecting is very unstable. It keeps connecting and disconnecting. Tried different cables and different USB ports. Other devices with other cables have the same issue. There is a difference sometimes, but in general the connection is very unstable.

I had the same with my 2013 iMac. The latest model iMac I currently own doesn't'y have the problem. I use the samen cables.

Any thoughts on this issue? Much appreciated!

Hello Genozel,

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities. I understand you're having some issues with connectivity on your MacBook Air. USB port functionality is critical, and I'm happy to see if I can help.

For clarification, multiple devices seem to connect and disconnect, it's currently only happening with the MacBook Air, and the same cables and devices connect as expected when you try it on your iMac, correct?

This would suggest the issue may be with the ports on the MacBook Air. I recommend resetting your System Management Controller using the steps in this link: How to reset the SMC of your Mac. Then test it out to see how it works.

I hope this helps.

Enjoy your day.
